Background: harmful lead
The heavy metal lead has been classified by ECHA (European Chemicals Agency) as a Substance of Very High Concern (SVHC). Lead has harmful effects on unborn and young children, and medical studies indicate a relationship between lead and cancer. Lead is also harmful to nature. This is why lead has been removed from many products (think petrol, paint products and water pipes).
